Goblin:Session 1
We started by exploring the surrounding area. I spent years in the magic academy so I didn't have chance to do it earlier. I must get familiar with my surroundings first.
The region south of Woodriver was a forest that separated town from the river flowing northwards.
We encountered 5 goblins(looking to plunder from the weak and Violent, willing to fight if it seems at all profitable) here.
Wisdom Roll. My wizard has +1 modifier so he rolls 2d8 for a roll of 8+1, Goblins roll 6.
The goblin group is roughly 400 ft from us and saw us, their faces twist in violent glee as they finally found an opponent to rob.
Goblin HP - 6 2 1 1 7
Edmund and I look at each other, taking a moment to talk if we can beat such opponents.
He nods as he points at two goblins that look weak and old, another one looks sick. Only two of them should prove a genuine opponent.
I motion him to keep our dog in check, the dog is barking loudly and wishes to pursue the weaker goblins but going there alone would be deadly.
They are now closer(15ft per move action, 30ft per round).
I have started drawing upon magic of my soul. The word of 'earth' shines from within me and I will it to turn my skin closer to what a stone is so that it will protect me just like an armor, but weightless.
Having no specialisation in such magic, nor a specialised word carved onto my soul, the magic is not strong, but that's enough.
Using my 1 spell point I create a miracle of magic. Cost 1, - 2 AC(+1 magnitude), 1min duration, used spell component worth 1 gp(-1 magnitude).
A shapeless force surrounds me as my skin mildly changes color and will deflect any blow it can for now.
As Edmund prepares his spear and shield. The dog barks louder.
The goblins are slow opponents but once they get here, it will be slaughter.
So why shouldn't I thin the herd.
The goblins are roughly 90ft away now so I stop thinking and let my magic do its job.
Using word of 'Lightning' I spend 1 spell point and create a long range bolt of lightning that intends to strike the weak looking goblin.
Due to the range and my novice power I must sacrifice the power of the spell, but that's enough. Cost 1, 2 dmg(-1 magnitude), range 90ft(+2 magnitude), save to halve the dmg, close specialisation(-1 magnitude).
Lightning Bolt DC is my wizard lvl 1 +9 +1 for being a storm caller specialist.
DC 11 vs 4 goblin roll. 1 HP goblin dies.
They are 60ft away now and I draw power from within my soul again.
Cost 0, 2 dmg(-1 magnitude), range 60ft(+1 magnitude), save to halve the dmg, close specialisation(-1 magnitude).
Seeing how they are closer now I am able to create a lightning bolt without costing me a spell point due to the reduced range.
DC 11 vs 8
Another goblin dies.
They are 30ft away and I can at most cast one more spell to thin them up before Edmund releases the dog and wades into melee combat.
Cost 0, d6 dmg, range 30ft, save to halve the dmg, close specialisation(-1 magnitude).
I target the sick looking goblin and make my lightning bolt a tad bit more powerful due to using the initial version of its power, althought lowered by being a storm caller.
DC 11 vs 3
Dmg roll is 6.
Just as I blast the lightning at the 3rd goblin, the chaotic nature of magic favors me and unleashes most powerful version of the bolt I can make.
The two other goblins which were charging at us gaze in horror for a second as the sick looking goblin is turned to ashes promptly.
3/5 of the goblins died, morale check for the two left.
They have 7 morale and their rolls are 4 and 8.
Storms bless the day as one of the tough looking goblins screams as his confidence shatters here. He turns around and tries to flee.
The other goblin enters combat with Edmund with a murderous gaze just as he releases the dog to hunt down the fleeing goblin with an order.
'Let's focus on this one and pursue the other with the dog later!' Edmund shouts.
Standing behind him as the goblin attacks I think my options for a brief second.
Goblin 7 hp attacks Edmund.
19 roll vs 20 required to hit
Using his shield Edmund deflects the spear of the goblin away with an experienced ease.
17 roll vs 20 required to hit
Edmund takes a stance and tries to stab the goblin using his javelin but the goblin size allows him to dodge the blow.
The dog has caught up with the other goblin and tries to bite it.
Unexpectedly the fleeing goblin trips and the dog goes for the neck, sharp teeth grip the spine and immedietely shatter it, killing the goblin instantly.
Morale check for the last goblin.
The goblin fighting spirit doesn't break yet.
As the dog kills the goblin I conjure the power of storms again and blast the goblin with lightning after maneuvering to the sides so I don't strike Edmund by mistake.
Cost 0, d6 dmg, range 30ft, save to halve the dmg, close specialisation(-1 magnitude).
DC 11 vs 4
Dmg roll is 4
Goblin has 3 hp left.
Roll 1d6 group initiative.
My party 6, goblin 3.
Our successful attacks continue as Edmund grips his spear harder and tries to stab the goblin head.
With a war cry his muscles bulge and the javelin escapes my sight for an instant as it lodges itself between the goblin eyes. It's dead!
After the battle we celebrate our victory and try to loot the bodies. Unfortunately the stupid goblins had no loot of any kind.
Treasure presence roll of 1d8 for intelligent monsters, rolled 3 instead of 1.
We pet the dog for doing a great job and take a rest by camping for the rest of the day.
